A Photo With Story — 20 Minutes Before Ironway

August 3, 2020

It was 20 minutes before the start of Ironway when Artem’s swim suit zipper broke.

This wasn’t just any swimsuit — it was a special wetsuit that triathletes wear over their race suits. It’s made from a special material that helps the body glide easily through water, supports freedom of movement, and saves energy during long swims.

I watched Artem trying to fix the zipper — first one way, then another… nothing worked.

Fifteen minutes left. In just 15 minutes, the big race would begin: 2 km swimming in the lake, 90 km cycling, and 21 km running.
He needed all his strength, his focus, his energy — and the right equipment.

Then I saw him fold the wetsuit, open his bag, and prepare to put it away. He had resigned himself to swimming in his regular tri-suit — which meant starting the day soaked, then sitting wet on the bike, at 7 a.m., in the chilly morning air.

I’ve never fixed a zipper in my life. Honestly, I’m much better at breaking things than repairing them. 😅

But something inside me wouldn’t let me stop.
I knew — deep down — that Artem had to wear that wetsuit. I couldn’t accept any other outcome. I picked it up, took a deep breath, and with all my focus and determination, started trying to fit the zipper back into place — again and again.

Ten minutes left. He was supposed to join the lineup of athletes any moment now.

But I couldn’t give up. There was no way I could let this go.
In my world, giving up simply doesn’t exist.
Artem had to wear that suit — that was the only option.

And suddenly — click!
The zipper slipped perfectly into place!

I couldn’t believe it. I had just fixed a zipper — for the first time in my life! I have no idea how it happened, it just did.

With the happiest, proudest, most triumphant smile on my face, I handed Artem his wetsuit. It was 06:52 a.m.
He couldn’t believe it either. He quickly put it on and ran off to take his place at the starting line.

That moment reminded me once again —
Love and faith together are an incredible force. 💫❤️
