The Morning Walk β A Meditation in Presence βοΈπΏ
August 30, 2018
The Morning Walk is one of my favorite exercises and meditations β something we used to do with Byron Katie.
Its essence lies in walking through nature and simply observing the objects around you β naming them by their original, first generation names, without any judgment or evaluation.
For example: sky, tree, grass, person.
Instead of saying: blue sky, tall tree, green grass, beautiful personβ¦
Itβs an incredible practice, during which I caught myself noticing how, the moment I looked at something, my mind instantly generated at least five different judgments about it. I discovered how fast my mind was in labeling and interpreting everything.
Then I realized β this is exactly how I was labeling people and situations too, instead of receiving them neutrally, just as they are.
Simply a person β not good or bad, kind or unkind, interesting or boring.
Itβs such a fascinating practice β when you simply observe, without judging, and allow things to reveal their own names in silence.
You just waitβ¦ and trust that life itself will show you what is what. β€οΈ
β¨ Try it β take a slow, mindful walk without labeling or judging anything you see. Just observe, breathe, and notice what happens within youβ¦ and if youβd like, share your insights with me. Iβd love to hear what you discover. πΏπ«
